Verizon will control Android updates for Google Pixel phones it sells
If you buy a Google Pixel or Pixel XL from Verizon Wireless, youll be at the mercy of the carrier when it comes to future Android updates.Google has apparently confirmed to 9to5Google that Verizon will be in charge of delivering Android software updates to all Pixel phones that it sells. That includes units purchased from Best Buy, since the popular electronics store is carrying Verizons Pixel models and not an unlocked version of the "phone by Google."

PSA: If you like updates, dont buy the Google Pixel phone from Verizon
The Google Pixel phones are coming, and theyre even being sold through a carrier: Verizon.I ve speculated a few times now that it would be a terrible idea to purchase the Pixel through Verizon, however, and now Google has offered official confirmation that it is indeed a terrible idea to purchase the Pixel through Verizon.Google gave the following statement to 9to5Google: "Monthly security updates will come from Google (for all models), and system updates will be managed by Verizon for Verizon models, and Google for unlocked models bought from Google Store."
